Community Healthcare and Eye Care for Older People
Promoting Healthy Ageing, Dignity, and Access to Healthcare
Resources Development Institution (RDI), a charitable organization based in Jorhat, Assam, aims to promote community healthcare, eye care awareness, and improved quality of life for older people, particularly those living in rural and underserved communities.
Older adults may face challenges in accessing regular health checkups, eye examinations, medical guidance, and essential support services. Limited healthcare facilities, financial difficulties, and a lack of awareness can make these challenges more difficult for elderly people and their families.
Through this initiative, RDI seeks to encourage early health awareness, improve access to community-based healthcare information, and support the physical, emotional, and social well-being of older people.
Our Objectives
Promote General Health Checkups: Encourage regular health assessments and timely medical consultation for older adults.
Improve Eye Care Awareness: Promote awareness of common age-related eye conditions, including cataracts, glaucoma, and vision impairment.
Encourage Early Detection: Help older people and their families understand the importance of seeking professional medical advice when symptoms arise.
Organize Health Awareness Programmes: Conduct community sessions on hygiene, nutrition, healthy ageing, and preventive healthcare.
Support Vulnerable Elderly People: Identify opportunities to connect older adults with appropriate healthcare and social support services.
Promote Dignity and Inclusion: Encourage families and communities to respect, care for, and include older people in community life.
Explore Mobile Healthcare Support: Where feasible, facilitate outreach activities and mobile medical services in rural areas.
Planned Activities
RDI aims to organize community health awareness camps, eye screening programmes, educational sessions, and outreach activities in collaboration with qualified healthcare professionals and relevant service providers.
Potential activities include basic health assessments, vision screening, referrals for further examination, awareness sessions on age-related health concerns, and guidance on accessing appropriate medical services.
The initiative may also promote awareness of balanced nutrition, personal hygiene, medication safety, physical activity suitable for older adults, and the importance of regular follow-up with healthcare professionals.
Where resources and partnerships permit, RDI will seek to connect elderly people who need additional assistance with suitable healthcare facilities, social welfare services, and community support networks.
Who Will Benefit?
This initiative primarily aims to benefit senior citizens, elderly people living alone, economically disadvantaged older adults, rural families caring for elderly relatives, and underserved communities in Assam.
Special attention will be directed towards people who experience difficulties accessing healthcare because of financial constraints, distance, limited mobility, or lack of information.
Expected Impact
Through this initiative, RDI aims to improve healthcare awareness among older people, encourage timely medical consultations, promote early identification of possible vision problems, and strengthen community support for healthy ageing.
The programme also seeks to help families better understand the healthcare needs of elderly relatives and encourage a more caring, inclusive, and supportive environment for senior citizens.
Actual outcomes will depend on local needs, available resources, healthcare partnerships, and the implementation of planned activities.
